Brand new documentaries at the German Screenings 2010

Cologne/Salzburg, 9 December 2010 – For the 35th time, program buyers from all across the world met at the German Screenings to view the latest German language productions. From 28 November through 1 December 2010 german united distributors, Telepool, Deutsche Welle and ORF together presented their program highlights in the Sheraton Hotel in Salzburg. Some 100 international TV buyers were impressed by the quality of the German features, made-for-TV movies, series and documentaries. united docs registered huge interest and received a number of license inquiries for the recently completed CGI production “Cathedrals – Between Heaven and Hell” (90’, 2x52’). The history documentary about the spectacular construction of European cathedrals follows in the spirit of the medieval age depicted in such films and series as the ratings hit “Pillars of the Earth”. The Cologne sales team’s bestseller remains the HD series “From Pioneers to Millionaires” (5x52’). Following their success at MIPDOC and MIPTV, the documentaries about Levi Strauss, Heinz Ketchup, Steinway & Sons and Boeing are now also heading for Austria, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Finland. In addition, united docs sold large travel packages to France, Croatia and Switzerland.

“Along with the MIPs, the annual German Screenings is our most important program fair. In addition to the appraisal and sale of our latest programs, the professional exchange with our international colleagues is always hugely important,” commented Silke Spahr, managing director of united docs. “Ultimately, we all profit from having a good network – particularly when developing new narrative forms. Nowadays, good material is no longer sufficient to capture the market. HD quality and CGI techniques are becoming standard for TV formats.”
