Skye is the largest and most beautiful of the Hebrides, an island group off the west coast of Scotland. Here you will find everything that is fascinating about the Highlands. The incomparable combination of ocean, mountains and jagged cliff-lined coast is the very embodiment of romantic, fierce Scotland. The inhabitants of the island are just as distinctive as the landscape. 40-year old Rob Miller forges swords according to an ancient Celtic technique and jeweller Garth Duncan, an immigrant from California, brings new life to the filigree tradition of Celtic artwork. In addition we meet Lord Godfrey MacDonald, the chief of the largest Scottish clan, the MacDonalds. Today there are five million clan members scattered to the four corners of the earth. In years gone by his family ruled the south of the island. In the north, on the other hand, the Highlander clan of the MacLeods were sovereign. To this day, the 29th chief of the family, John MacLeod of MacLeod, still lives in Dunvegan Castle, which has stood for more than 700 years. No other castle in Scotland has been in the hands of one single family for such a long period. There were often fierce disputes and hard-fought battles between the two clans on Skye. Nowadays these two clan chiefs are the best of friends. Actually the life of the inhabitants on Skye is now enviably relaxed and laid back.
