Once a year, a Victorian-era train called the “Pride of Africa” crosses the African continent – from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, from Cape Town to Dar es Salaam:a journey that takes in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania. This is an epic journey through steppes and savannah, past rolling vineyards and rugged mountains, clear lakes and thundering waterfalls, through deep valleys and famous national parks. In total, the route stretches well over 6,000 km. The “Pride of Africa” is practically a five-star hotel on wheels with 37 suites, two restaurants, a lounge car and an observation car. At the end of his journey, one passenger, American Milton Dalins, wrote: “Two weeks of great Africa” in the train’s guest book. And: “Don’t count the hours! Climb mountains, take a train ride, swim through rivers, dance barefoot and laugh. The last station will arrive soon enough.” 72 passengers, an illustrious company of fans of Africa, travelled from all over the world to make this trip. The first leg of this journey of a lifetime takes us from Cape Town to Krüger National Park, while the second leg continues on to Dar es Salaam on the Indian Ocean.
