From the air it is immediately obvious: Stockholm is like a floating city built on 14 islands. Life here is defined by the water, the high recreational value, the ease of pace. We explore the city, the official summer residence of the monarch, from a hot-air balloon, by boat and on foot. Stockholm is multifaceted. It is a royal city with castles and magnificent buildings. It is modern, with new acclaimed architecture on the water. It is cosy, with the labyrinthine alleys of the old town. And it is hip too, with a lively pub scene, young fashion and pioneering design. Some Stockholm residents introduce us to their city: Erik Fritzell, for example, is a coxswain and transports fuel to the islands off Stockholm with his bunker boat. Sigrid is 19 and enjoys nothing more than trawling through the trendy second-hand boutiques of the city - she also has her own fashion blog. She loves the city's glittering night life, which in summer time takes place almost completely outdoors. Former opera singer, Kjerstin Dellert prefers the green side of her city. She runs the theatre at Ulriksdal, one of the many castles here, which is located in a glorious park. In addition to her commitment to the theatre, the 83 year old is also developing fitness courses for the elderly.
