The New York district of Jamaica is a melting pot of nations like no other: it contains the entire world in a hundred blocks. This lively centre of the largest New York borough of Queens is also said to be the cradle of hip hop; at least this is what the youths here claim as they celebrate their idols. Jamaica did not take its name from the Caribbean island of the same name. Jamaica, NY comes from the Indian word jamekos: the beaver. In the meantime, however, many immigrants have arrived from the Caribbean to live in Jamaica, Queens. We meet people who came to the land of supposedly unlimited possibilities with big dreams: the Egyptian with his wedding gown shop, who also organizes "Sweet 15" ("Los Quinze") parties for the Latinos, when their daughters reach marriageable age. We follow the Jamaica Bulldogs, a football team, founded to prevent child abuse and delinquency and get to experience community life in the "Tabernacle of Prayer" with its strict moral code.
