London is the city that has it all. Beauty and beauties, billionaires and rag-and-bone men, acclaimed architecture and ancient ruins. It is a city that has room for everything and anything. Horses, for example. Nowadays, the area around Hyde Park is really far too expensive to still offer space for normal riding stables. Luxury homes have forced the horse stalls out. One, however, has survived and it is beloved by the wealthy ladies of Chelsea, who take their early morning exercise on horseback. As far back as the 18th century, the upper classes enjoyed being seen up at Ross in Hyde Park, and the bridle path in the park is there still. These exclusive stables offer an all-round carefree package. Something that the last of the boatmen on the Thames could only dream of. The Thames waters are treacherous and the job is tough – but it does offer stunning views. Being a Thames boatman is a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for almost 500 years. The Thames is not just a tourist attraction but also a source of much work. In the south of the city lies a Victorian treasure: the Nunhead Cemetery, which had been completely forgotten about for decades. That was until volunteers with an eye for the beauty of the wild graveyard re-discovered it.
