The New Relations - The Danube Between Romania And Bulgaria; Rechte: united docs

Romania has been a member of the European Union since 2007. The people who live in Wallachia on the Romanian/Bulgarian border have thrown off the lethargy of the Communist era and are setting out with great vigour to change their homeland into a truly “blooming landscape”. EU membership offers many benefits but the road to Europe is still a long one: for the farmer Nicolae, who suddenly finds that Brussels is prescribing every detail as to how he should work his land, even though he has not seen one cent of EU support. For the former chemicals worker, Konstantin, who, for the first time in his life, is his own boss and has just opened a small heating business. For the nuns from Saon, who have been keeping their convent afloat through the careful sale of their agricultural products and now find themselves bombarded with new ordinances from Brussels. For Marius, the young fisherman from the picturesque Danube delta, who has discovered “gentle”, sustainable tourism and dreams of opening a small hotel. All this against the backdrop of the melancholy landscapes of the Danube, which if not blue, is the promising brown of an early spring.
