When Ram Gopal gets behind the wheel of his 15 ton truck, he knows that over the course of the following days anything could happen. "If my boss had his way, we’d all fly our trucks to Calcutta," the 40 year-old family father moans. Countless truckers like Gopal are en route on the 1,500 kilometer-long stretch every day, and it’s nothing to shake a stick at: street thieves, corrupt policemen, the never-ending fatigue, and, last but not least, the catastrophic traffic and road conditions make the trip a three to five day nightmare. Gopal knows why he makes a stop in the holy city Varanasi to pray. Not to mention the unbelievable pressure to get there on time and his ever-worsening health. Can this journey possibly go well?
